A Smart Black Bear
I saw several black bear eating berries in the trees in the morning. I got a few photos, but nothing too exciting. It was hard to get good photo being so far away or couldn't really see the bear to clearly up in the trees with so many leaves. I decided I was going to photograph this one bear for awhile and try to get something through the leaves and limbs. So glad I waited and I was in for a big surprise.

Photos of the black bear eating berries in the tree
I was standing under the tree looking for different angles to try to photograph the black bear.
All of a sudden a large limb comes crashing down to the ground. Later I realized he had chewed through the limb so the limb would fall to the ground and could eat the berries easier. One smart bear. If you look at the photograph near middle top you can see where he had chewed through the branch and it was not a small branch. I looked up the strength of a black bear bite.. -
"How Strong Is a Black Bear’s Bite Bite force is measured with BFQ (Bite Force Quotient) and PSI (Pound per square inch). Bears have one of the strongest bites out of all animals. Grizzly and polar bears are in the top 10, with the bite force of 1200 PSI or 78 BFQ. Black bears are very close, their bite force is 980 PSI or 64 BFQ. Humans PSI is 162"
Top middle you can see black bear chewed through branch.

Then he gave me a look, like do not bother my branch.. He had no worries, for sure. I stepped back and waited to see what going to happen.

Then the black bear started to climb down the tree. Taking his time

A smart bear. It might be something that happens all the time but first time I ever witnessed a black bear biting through a limb so he could get the berries easier on the ground. One smart bear. Of course I think the photos of the bear on the ground much better then the photos of the bear in the tree.
Thanks for taking a look at my photos
